Should We Announce Our Existence To Aliens?

Humans have always debated whether we should take steps to let aliens know about our existence. It may seem like an exciting venture to pursue, but if we think through a rational approach, it might seem like a horrible idea. The biggest reason is that our confidence may turn detrimental to us. Humans don’t know anything about aliens, and we have no idea the level of information that they have about us. It is similar to shooting arrows in the arrow, despite knowing that there are chances it can backfire. By doing so, we are jeopardizing the lives of millions of humans, let alone the entire future.

However, some scientists are keen to know at least something about the extraterrestrial being. And they are opting for different ways than usual, such as METI.

METI- The Reverse of SETI

People know about SETI (search for extraterrestrial intelligence), but METI (Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence) is the reverse. While the former listens to laser signals or radio signals from space. At METI, it transmits messages that are powerful and intentional.

It might be possible that some other civilizations out there are using SETI programmers, and that is one reason no one is talking to anyone. The cause of why none of the beings, if there are any, are saying hello. METI is the initiation of galactic conversation.

Countless sporadic messages have been sent out. And one of the highly famous messages was sent through the largest telescope to give a demonstration how humans and aliens can converse and get on with something.

The Message

The message was in the form of numbers from 1 to 10 in a binary format and a description of chemical elements which are significant to life on Earth in regards to their atomic numbers. The description of our DNA was also present

to let them know about our appearance and how many of us are present on Earth. The message also had a description of the Solar System and telescope. It was undoubtedly a lot of crucial information.

At METI, the approach is slightly different. Something that is succinct, understandable, and precise is sent.

Takeaway

With all the research that has taken place so far, it seems clear that not letting our presence known to the world can turn out to be a wise decision. In the book The Fourth Signal, Mark Daniel Proulx discusses all things alien and how keeping humanity far from them can be the only best option for our survival.
