Should We Announce Our Existence To Aliens?

Humans have always debated whether we should take steps to let aliens know about our existence. It may seem like an exciting venture to pursue, but if we think through a rational approach, it might seem like a horrible idea. The biggest reason is that our confidence may turn detrimental to us. Humans don’t know anything about aliens, and we have no idea the level of information that they have about us. It is similar to shooting arrows in the arrow, despite knowing that there are chances it can backfire. By doing so, we are jeopardizing the lives of millions of humans, let alone the entire future.

However, some scientists are keen to know at least something about the extraterrestrial being. And they are opting for different ways than usual, such as METI.

METI- The Reverse of SETI

People know about SETI (search for extraterrestrial intelligence), but METI (Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence) is the reverse. While the former listens to laser signals or radio signals from space. At METI, it transmits messages that are powerful and intentional.

It might be possible that some other civilizations out there are using SETI programmers, and that is one reason no one is talking to anyone. The cause of why none of the beings, if there are any, are saying hello. METI is the initiation of galactic conversation.

Countless sporadic messages have been sent out. And one of the highly famous messages was sent through the largest telescope to give a demonstration how humans and aliens can converse and get on with something.

The Message

The message was in the form of numbers from 1 to 10 in a binary format and a description of chemical elements which are significant to life on Earth in regards to their atomic numbers. The description of our DNA was also present

to let them know about our appearance and how many of us are present on Earth. The message also had a description of the Solar System and telescope. It was undoubtedly a lot of crucial information.

At METI, the approach is slightly different. Something that is succinct, understandable, and precise is sent.

Takeaway

With all the research that has taken place so far, it seems clear that not letting our presence known to the world can turn out to be a wise decision. In the book The Fourth Signal, Mark Daniel Proulx discusses all things alien and how keeping humanity far from them can be the only best option for our survival.

The Dark Forest Theory: What Makes It So Interesting

We are always excited about the idea of discovering aliens. As much as it sounds thrilling, the Dark Forest Theory speaks otherwise. According to it, we should pray that aliens will never find us, as it will likely increase our chances of getting wiped off entirely.

The Milky Way

When we look at space, the Milky Way consists of 200 billion stars and almost 100 billion planets. If these planets harbored even a fraction of life, an intelligent being of some other form, the chances of our galaxy teeming with alien civilizations are high. Interestingly, the Drake equation determines the probability of finding out the number of alien civilizations the galaxy consists of. It turns the factors mentioned above into variables. And transforming them into a formula, you will find that there should be around 20 civilizations in the cosmic neighborhood.

In other words, there is a high possibility that someone is outside us. It increases the chance of finding out advanced civilizations in space. However, the lack of evidence is called the Fermi paradox. And it has created numerous hypotheses and potential solutions over time.

In the Drake equation, the solutions are targeted toward a singular variable that reduces the number of civilizations. It is one reason that makes it difficult for us to come to the point of meeting someone.

Others believe there may not be any life apart from us. The creation of intelligence is the bottleneck. Some believe civilizations may have only survived for a brief period, coming to an end by blowing themselves up. Or they must have failed to develop any device that could help them connect with us.

The Dark Forest Solution

According to The Dark Forest Solution, we haven’t heard from the aliens until now because they are keeping quiet.

The universe is nothing less than a dark forest potentially filled with other life forms, probably looking for survival. They don’t want to become a target of threat and, therefore, might destroy the other life form in the fear or concern of saving themselves. Since humans lack assurance, it is best to prevent knowing others from finding out about our existence.

Takeaway

If you are a science fiction fan and want to read something extremely interesting, read The Fourth Signal by Mark Daniel Proulx. It is based on all things alien, strange happenings, and conspiracies. The author also explains how not allowing aliens to know about our existence can be the right choice for humanity. Although we have been broadcasting our presence for almost a hundred years, we haven’t heard anything. The question remains, should we continue to do it?

Are We Alone in This Vast Universe?

Living for decades on planet earth, we do tend to think once in a while that there must be someone out there except us. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that many of us are anxiously waiting to know even the slightest of information about the presence of some extraterrestrial being.

NASA Scientist’s Message To The Scientific Community

NASA Scientists are asking the scientific community to develop a new framework to give insight into the search for life. They are proposing the creation of a scale for evaluating different lines of evidence that could help us resolve the ultimate question: Are we alone?

NASA group is providing a sample scale to the scientists and communicators ready to learn about the presence of some other life forms. They envision a particular scale informed by the age-old experience in astrobiology. It gives a better idea of comprehending our state of how far we are in the search for life in terms of specific locations, technologies and missions.

James Webb Space Telescope – A New Hope For Finding Life

In these advanced times, technology is rapidly improving and only turning better. The methods to search for alien life are changing drastically. The James Webb Space Telescope, launched in 2021’s end, has taken the sear for alien life onto newer pathways. Space missions are likely to go far beyond using powerful telescopes and cutting-edge observational techniques. Also, using the sun as the gravitational lens is leading to newer space discoveries.

Thinking about life other than on Earth indeed leads to countless philosophical questions. It could be possible that the universe is crowded with types of creatures completely different from us. Or we might come across one by chance. Undoubtedly the universe is way beyond the human scope, and the cosmic backyards keep us away from many things happening in space. Some scientists and astronomers do believe that the cosmos consists of intelligent beings.

Looking at all the studies and research, we can’t conclude if humans are the only living beings in the entire universe.

Takeaway

If you are one of those eager to learn about aliens, read The Fourth Signal by Mark Daniel Proulx. An amazing book that discusses the strange happening and theories revolving around aliens. The author has tried to make it a warning to all mankind about how letting them know can be the end of our existence.

The Search For Alien Tech in The Space

The search for alien life is not only a hot topic of today. In fact, from scientists to the average person, everyone is equally interested in learning about them. One cannot help but wonder about the consequences of searching for an extraterrestrial civilization.

Scientists And Interstellar Objects

In Rendezvous With Rama, a novel by Arthur C Clarke, there is 50-kilometer-long cylindrical spacecraft that enters the Solar system. A space mission is carried out to analyze and study the Solar system before it disappears into space darkness again.

Prof Avi Loeb, an astrophysicist at Harvard University, thinks that Oumuamua, a mysterious interstellar object found flowing in the Solar System in 2017, can be an alien Rama-like artifact. And to find it out, he started Project Galileo. The goal is to scan the heavens in search of a new Oumuamua. It will allow scientists to photograph this amazing object.

Over 100 scientists are involved in Project Galileo, which Loeb leads. They are trying to move away from SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) to searching for signs of objects that can be alien technology.

According to Loeb, it is high time we start searching for alien technologies roaming around us in our Solar system instead of focusing on ways to interact with them. He thinks 70 years of doing the same thing has been a knock on the wrong door. It is the moment to move beyond the radio signals coming from the Galaxy.

Dr. Alexey Arkhipov, Institute of Radio Astronomy in Kharkiv, Ukraine, stated that there are, at times, pieces of our space technology unavoidably ousted from the Solar System by certain events. It could be a collision or some kind of explosion in space. And the same happens in reverse. The alien civilizations could end up in our Solar System.

Interestingly, Earth’s geological activity and weather tend to re-mold its surface. And that can make the search for alien artifacts difficult.

Scientists think that searching for objects such as Oumuamua is worth all our efforts and time, and we should continue with the process.

Takeaway

Undoubtedly it is always interesting to learn about aliens, but making an effort to talk to them can be a bad idea. In his book The Fourth Signal, Mark Daniel Proulx discusses that humans’ eagerness to talk to aliens may not be a good idea. It involves thought-provoking explanations that every science fiction fan would prefer to read.
